If you were the president of
Microsoft,
what would you do?Just
what makes a good
leader, and do I
have whatever that is?
What do good leaders do? When do good leaders
need to
adapt their behavior? I’ve been leading
this way for years, but now it seems I
need to change.
Why? And how can I lead people to produce in the short term,
while at the same timehelping them understand where we’re
headed in the long
term?
A
cross section interviews 100 Microsoft workers; Despite
record financial
success, the interviews identified several key
problems that could prove
troublesome if not addressed.
First,
it became slow and bureaucratic.
Second,
it was clear that employees did not understand the
company's long-term vision and strategic plans.
Third,
a few of your trusted friends in the company recently
told you that some
managers and employees were
uncomfortable with your leadership style.
